Directions:
1. Discard containers of herbs or ground spices opened for at least a year. 2. Buy small quantities whenever possible. 3. Write the date of purchase (or opening) on spice containers as a reminder. 4. Buy whole spices and grind them for optimal freshness. 5. Chopped Onion Substitute: 6. When there's no time to chop onions, onion powder is one option. Substitute 1 tablespoon of onion powder for one medium chopped onion. For the best onion flavor, use frozen chopped onions or dried minced onion. One tablespoon of dried minced onion equals 1/4 cup minced raw onion. |
