Great for the holidays. Ingredients:
3 eggs |
1 1/2 cups brown sugar |
1 cup vegetable shortening |
1 cup molasses |
1/2 cup sour milk |
2 teaspoons baking soda |
1/2 teaspoon black pepper |
1 teaspoon salt |
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon |
1 teaspoon powdered ginger |
1 teaspoon powdered clove |
1 teaspoon grated nutmeg |
1/2 teaspoon baking powder |
flour, to make a stiff dough |
Directions:
1. Beat eggs five minutes, then add sugar and beat five minutes, then add vegetable shortening. 2. Beat until thoroughly mixed, add molasses, milk, soda, salt, spices, baking powder, and enough flour to make stiff dough. 3. Leave mixture in basin overnight. 4. Take pieces of dough and roll out, cut with small cutter, lay on vegetable shortening greased tins and bake in moderate (350) oven from seven to ten minutes. |
