The warm spices complement the flavor punch from the black pepper and balsamic vinegar in this all-purpose sauce. Use all of one type of berry or a frozen-berry mixture. Serve warm over low-fat frozen yogurt, pancakes, or French toast. Ingredients:
1/2 cup cranberry juice cocktail |
1/3 cup packed brown sugar |
1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar |
1/8 teaspoon ground cardamom |
1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon |
1/8 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper |
1 (12-ounce) package frozen berries (blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries) |
1 (3-inch) cinnamon stick |
2 tablespoons cornstarch |
2 tablespoons water |
Directions:
1. Combine first 8 ingredients in a medium saucepan; bring to a boil. Combine cornstarch and water, stirring with a whisk; add to fruit mixture. Boil for 1 minute, stirring constantly. Discard cinnamon stick. |
