Adapted from Southern Living. Ingredients:
3 tablespoons vegetable oil |
2 cups long-grain rice, uncooked |
2 large green bell peppers, chopped |
2 stalks celery, chopped |
2 medium onions, finely chopped |
2 teaspoons cumin seeds, crushed |
1 -1 1/2 teaspoon salt, to taste |
1/2 teaspoon pepper, to taste |
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder |
6 cups water |
1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce |
Directions:
1. In a large pot, heat the oil over medium-high heat. 2. Add in the rice and next 7 ingredients. 3. Cook and stir often until the rice is browned. 4. Add in the water and tomato sauce; stir to combine. 5. Bring to a boil; lower heat to medium; cover and cook 25 minutes or until rice is tender. |
