This is a really rich, dark meaty sauce. It gets better the longer it simmers. It goes best with a hearty pasta, Angel Hair past would be too delicate for this. I have used it for lasagne with good results as well as meatball sandwiches. Ingredients:
1/2 cup olive oil |
1 large onion, chopped |
2 garlic cloves, chopped |
1 1/2 lbs ground sirloin |
1 (28 ounce) can italian-style tomatoes |
1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce |
1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste |
2 tablespoons sugar |
1 teaspoon parsley |
1/4 teaspoon dried basil |
1 teaspoon salt |
1 teaspoon pepper |
Directions:
1. In large stew pot, on stovetop brown onion in oil, add garlic and ground sirloin and continue browning. Drain well and add tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, sugar, parsley, basil, salt and pepper. 2. Simmer on very low heat for 3 hours with lid on pot, simmer for another 1/2 hour with lid on. Serve over pasta or as desired. |
