Old southern recipe from the East Point Women's club cookbook Ingredients:
6 oranges, peeled & sliced |
1/2 cup sugar |
1 cup shredded coconut |
1 pint milk |
3 egg yolks, well beaten |
another 1/2 cup sugar |
3 tablespoons cornstarch |
meringue |
3 egg whites, well beaten |
3 teaspoons vanilla |
3 tablespoons sugar |
Directions:
1. Mix oranges, sugar and shredded coconut. 2. Refrigerate 3. Make a custard of milk, egg yolks, sugar and cornstarch on top of the stove. 4. Drain juice off orange mixture; put the fruit in glass dish and pour custard over fruit 5. Make the meringue and pour over orange mixture 6. Place under broiler until brown 7. ************************************************************** 8.
