SOUTHERN OKRA GUMBO DATED 1961 This recipe came from an estate sale. I obtained it when I purchased the family collection from the Marcus Estate in Wylie, Texas in 1995. Ingredients:
2 tablespoons butter melted |
1 medium white onion chopped |
2 cups fresh tomatoes |
2 cups okra cut fine |
1 cup chopped green peppers |
2 cups hot water |
1/2 teaspoon celery seed |
1/4 teaspoon salt |
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper |
Directions:
1. Fry onions in melted butter until brown then add vegetables, hot water and seasonings. 2. Cook slowly until thick. |
