Southern Fried Pies The Best |

You will now be famous. You and whoever will be glad that you made these! They are some good . A staple in many southern restaurants. Famous with southern barbeque, and now you can even find them along the way when traveling. Read more . Some are better than others, these are better! :) Ingredients:
2 cups flour |
1 teaspoon baking powder |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
1 tablespoon sugar |
1/2 cup crisco |
3/4 cup milk |
prepared filling - dried apricots, dried peaches, dried apples, prepared according to package directions (sweetened to taste) |
may use chocolate filling, preserves, or your choice of filling |
note: lots of explaining in the directions, but you want the perfect fried pie |
Directions:
1. In large bowl, place flour, baking powder, salt, sugar 2. Whisk all together 3. Cut in CRISCO as in a pie crust with pastry blender or fork 4. Add milk, stir and gather up as in pie crust pastry 5. Chill for a few minutes 6. Roll out like pastry, fairly thin 7. Cut into circles*, (the lid of the Crisco can is perfect) 8. Place choice of filling on one half of the circle, not quite going to the edge 9. Bring other half over the filling to the edge 10. Seal the edges of the pastry with a fork dipped in water 11. Meanwhile heat about a half inch of Crisco solid shortening in an iron skillet, (preferably) and carefully 12. Lift pies with a spatula and *carefully, carefully* place in hot oil 13. Watch *carefully*, and turn when golden brown 14. Watch *carefully * again, and when other side is golden brown 15. remove with spatula 16. Place on paper towel to drain 17. Sprinkle each cooked fried pie with granulated sugar 18. *MAY CUT DIFFERENT SIZE CIRCLES, USING A BISCUIT CUTTER, SAUCER, ETC. 19. These are simply delicious! Hard to explain how very good!
