Just like a southern belle it is innocent, beautiful, and rich. Yet, the name itself has a vampy allure: red velvet mmm.... Ingredients:

2 1/2 cups flour |
1 1/2 cups sugar |
1 tsp baking soda |
1 tsp salt |
1 tsp cocoa powder |
1 tsp vanilla |
1 1/2 cups vegetable oil |
1 cup buttermilk - room temperature |
2 large eggs - room temperature |
2 tbl red food coloring |
1 tsp white distilled vinegar |
pecans & coconut - garnish |
icing: cream cheese frosting |
1 lb. butter |
2 - 8oz pkg cream cheese |
4+ cups powdered sugar |
1 1/2 tsp vanilla |
2 egg whites |
Directions:
1. Cake: 2. In a large bowl, sift together flour, sugar, soda, salt, & cocoa. 3. In another bowl whisk together oil, buttermilk, eggs, food coloring, vinegar, & vanilla. 4. Mix dry and wet ingredients together. 5. Preheat oven at 350°. 6. Put mixture in oil (vegetable)/floured pans (3 round) 7. Bake for 30 minutes. 8. After Icing add pecans and coconut as garnish! 9. ______________________________ 10. Icing: 11. Beat butter and cream cheese together. 12. Incorporate everything else at once and beat until fluffy (3-5 min.) 13. Spread on Cake |
