I found this, what I call unique recipe, in our monthly Alabama Living Recipe Exchange. It looked so simple I thought I would give it a whirl. It is very tasty. Makes for a great quickie-breakfast. Ingredients:
4 cups flour |
4 teaspoons baking powder |
2 teaspoons salt |
1 cup vegetable shortening |
1 1/2 cups water, approximate |
honey (for topping) |
powdered sugar (optional) |
Directions:
1. Combine dry ingredients in mixing bowl. Cut in shortening. 2. Add just enough water to hold together. 3. Roll into a circle 1/8 inch thick. Cut into wedges; let rise for 5 minutes. 4. Fry in deep fat till puffy. Drain on absorbent paper. 5. Serve warm with honey drizzled over the top. 6. Can dust with powdered sugar if desired. |
