Celebrating the Oklahoma beef industry with a variation of the Sloppy Joe. Who was Joe? Ingredients:
1 pound of lean fresh ground beef |
1 cup of chopped onion |
2 cloves of garlic minced |
1/4 teaspoon of salt |
1/4 teaspoon of pepper |
1/4 teaspoon of cumin |
1 can of tomato sauce (15 oz.) |
1/3 cup of water |
1/2 cup of ketchup |
1 teaspoon of worchestershire sauce |
1 tablespoon of cider vinegar |
4 hamburger buns, warmed |
Directions:
1. In a large frying pan over medium heat, cook the ground beef, breaking up the large pieces with a wooden spoon. 2. Add the onion, garlic, salt, pepper and cumin. 3. cook about 10 minutes. 4. Drain off any grease, or scoop out with a spoon. 5. Add the tomato sauce and water. 6. Turn the heat to low and simmer uncovered another ten minutes, stirring occasionally to keep from sticking. You may need to add a touch more water at this point. 7. Add the ketchup, worchestershire, and vinegar, stir constantly cooking until the mixture is thick but not dry. 8. Spoon mixture over warmed buns. |
