After experimenting with many different recipes, I came up with this unique recipe for apple crisp. It has some ingredients you wouldn't expect to find in a crisp recipe, making this apple crisp especially delicious. Ingredients:
1/2 cup all-purpose flour |
1/3 cup rolled oats |
1/3 cup shredded coconut |
1/4 cup white sugar |
1/4 cup light brown sugar |
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon |
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg |
1/8 teaspoon baking powder |
1/8 teaspoon baking soda |
1/8 teaspoon salt |
6 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into 1/4-inch pieces and frozen |
1/3 cup chopped walnuts |
5 cups apples - peeled, cored and sliced |
1/4 cup white sugar |
1/4 cup light brown sugar |
2 tablespoons instant tapioca |
1 tablespoon vanilla extract |
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon |
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Spray a 9-inch pie dish with cooking spray. 2. Place the flour, rolled oats, coconut, 1/4 cup of white sugar, 1/4 cup of light brown sugar, 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and butter into the work bowl of a food processor. Pulse several times to make a mixture that looks like coarse crumbs. Stir in the walnuts. 3. In a large bowl, mix together the apples, 1/4 cup of white sugar, 1/4 cup of brown sugar, tapioca, vanilla extract, 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon, and 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg until well combined. Pour the filling into the prepared pie dish; spread the topping evenly over the filling. 4. Bake in the preheated oven until the apple crisp is bubbling and golden brown, 30 to 40 minutes. |
