These breadsticks are really soft and tasty. My kids often ask for them. They are so easy to make and the kids often help because they like twisting them! Ingredients:
1 teaspoon sugar |
1 teaspoon salt, divided |
1 package fast rising yeast |
2 -2 1/2 cups unbleached flour |
2/3 cup warm water (120-130 degrees) |
1 tablespoon olive oil |
3 tablespoons butter, melted |
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder |
italian seasoning or grated parmesan cheese |
Directions:
1. In a food processor or mixer, combine the sugar, 3/4 tsp. 2. salt, yeast and 2 c. 3. flour. 4. Mix well 5-10 seconds. 5. While processing, gradually add warm water and oil in a steady stream. 6. Mix for 1 minute or until smooth and elastic. 7. Check dough; add 1 to 2 Tbsp. 8. of water or flour if needed. 9. Turn onto a floured surface. 10. Roll into a 15 x 12 rectangle. 11. Cut into 12 strips. 12. Fold each strip in half lengthwise; twist each strip several times. 13. Pinch ends to seal. 14. Place 2 apart on a greased baking sheet. 15. In a bowl, combine butter, garlic powder and remaining salt. 16. Brush some over dough. 17. Sprinkle with Italian seasoning or Parmesan Cheese if desired. 18. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 25 minutes. 19. Bake at 425 degrees for 6-8 minutes or until golden brown. 20. Brush with remaining butter mixture. |
