This is a very old recipe that is popular in my family. My grandmother made it when I was little and then my mother. It is not as sweet as other frostings and is cooked in a double boiler and because of this it stays soft. You put it on hot and sprinkle with chopped walnuts if you like and it is great. This should frost a 9x13 cake. If you want it real thick, half it again. Ingredients:
2 (1 ounce) unsweetened chocolate squares |
1 cup water |
3/4 cup sugar |
1 tablespoon cornstarch |
1 tablespoon butter |
1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional) |
Directions:
1. Put everything in a double boiler and cook till thick; stirring often. 2. Put on cake hot. 3. Sprinkle chopped walnuts. |
