Marmite was my favourite childhood spread with toasted bread strips and a soft boiled egg. Mum called the toast, soldiers. Ingredients:
1 large egg |
water, to cover |
1 slice bread, toasted |
1 tablespoon butter (or to taste) |
1 teaspoon marmite (yeast extract) |
Directions:
1. In a small saucepan filled with cold water add the egg, bring to a boil then turn down the heat to a simmer for 3 minutes. 2. Toast the bread then spread with the butter. 3. Spread 1 teaspoon of marmite on the toast and cut into 3 or 4 long strips. 4. When the egg is cooked put into an eggcup and serve with the marmite toasted bread strips. |
