Smiths Pumpkin Soup

This is a Hearty Holiday favorite. It warms you on a cold day. I like to serve it with sourdough toasts.
Ingredients:
16 oz canned pumpkin
1/2 cup butter
1 medium onion finely chopped
3 1/2 cups chicken broth
2 cup milk or half and half
1 pinch nutmeg
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 tsp cinnamon
2 tbs grits ( to thicken it)
7 tbs parmesan grated ( optional)
salt and pepper according to taste
Directions:
1. Heat Butter in large saucepan over medium heat
2. Add onions and cook until until onions are soft ( 5 minutes)
3. Stir in Pumpkin and Chicken broth.
4. Heat it to a slight boil then stir in Milk,sugar and nutmeg,cinnamon and seasonings.
5. Sprinkle grits in and make sure they do not clump.
6. Serve warm with Parmesan over the top if desired.
