I love the texture of steel cut oats better than old fashioned or instant, but they take a long time to cook and I just don't have that much time in the morning. This is a way to have breakfast waiting when I'm ready. Read more . Note this is just for one or two people. Larger amounts of oats can be cooked directly in the slow cooker. Ingredients:
1/4 cup steel cut oats |
1-1/2 cup of water (can use milk instead) |
1 tbs maple syrup |
1 tbs brown sugar |
1/2 tsp cinnamon |
1 tbs of dried fruit (optional - i used dried banana chips) |
dash of salt |
Directions:
1. Mix all ingredients together in a 2 cup heat safe measuring cup or bowl. Set on top of crumpled, flattened aluminum foil in the slow cooker pot. Add water until it reaches halfway up the cup or bowl See Photo. Cover, turn to low and cook for 8 to 9 hours (mine cooked for 9-1/2 hours) See Photo. In the morning, stir to combine. Can be served with additional syrup, brown sugar or whatever you like. 2. (To make this a more suitable and smaller serving for one, use 3 Tbs of oats and 1 cup plus 2 Tbs of water.) |
