Slow Cooker Hearty Italian Sandwiches |

I cut this recipe out of a magazine - I cannot remember which one. I tweaked a bit to our tastes. Ingredients:
1 1/2 lbs ground round |
1 1/2 lbs italian sausage |
1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes, divided |
3 teaspoons minced garlic |
2 large green peppers, sliced |
2 large red peppers, sliced |
2 large onions, sliced |
1/2 teaspoon seasoning salt |
1 teaspoon ground pepper |
shredded monterey jack cheese |
Directions:
1. Brown meat. 2. After meat is browned, add 1/4 teaspoon red pepper and garlic and simmer until flavors blend, about 4 to 5 minutes. 3. In slow cooker, place 1/3 of onions and peppers. 4. Top with 1/2 of meat. 5. Repeat layers of vegetables and meat, topping with remaining vegetables. 6. Sprinkle with salt, pepper and remaining 1/4 teaspoon crushed pepper. 7. Cover and cook on low for 6 to 8 hours. 8. Using slotted spoon, serve 1 cup of mixture on bun. Top with shredded cheese. |
