This is a recipe I learned from a cooking class. What makes this recipe better than any other sloppy joe recipe I've ever made is that it's made with ground pork instead of ground beef. The pork gives the recipe much more flavor. Ingredients:
1 lb ground pork |
16 ounces diced tomatoes |
3 tablespoons chili powder |
1/2-1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (depending on how spicy you like it) |
1 tablespoon fennel seed |
1 tablespoon dried oregano |
1 diced onion |
2 minced garlic cloves |
1 tablespoon tomato paste |
1/2 cup red wine |
salt and pepper |
Directions:
1. Mix pork, chili powder, cayenne pepper, fennel seed, and dried oregano. 2. Brown pork mixture (if it is lean pork, add some olive oil to the pan). 3. Remove pork from pan and sauté garlic and onions in about a tablespoon of olive oil (about 2-3 minutes). 4. Add pork mixture to pan and add the rest of the ingredients including tomatoes. 5. Simmer 20-30 minutes. |
