A long time family favourite, this tuna pate is thick and creamy, more spread than dip. Terrific appetizer served with a substantial cracker (such as Ritz) or a (fairly) healthy snack as a celery topper. Reduce fat and calories by using neufchatel style cream cheese and low fat mayo. This would also work with crab or salmon. Ingredients:
16 ounces cream cheese, softened (2-8 ounce packages) |
2 tablespoons mayonnaise |
12 ounces albacore tuna, drained (1 large can or 2 regular sized cans) |
2 tablespoons onion soup mix |
2 tablespoons parsley, chopped (or dill or basil, your preference) |
2 tablespoons lemon juice |
10 dashes hot sauce (or to taste) |
Directions:
1. In a large bowl blend softened cream cheese with mayonnaise until smooth. 2. Flake the well-drained tuna into the bowl. 3. Add the remaining ingredients and mix well. 4. Chill for at least 30 minutes for the flavours to blend and the dried onion to soften. 5. Mix again before serving. |
