Your basic 'pico de gallo.' This recipe can be modified to your liking. All of the ingredients are guidelines, feel free to change the amounts, or the preparation (e.g. roast the garlic, or the peppers etc.) This recipe calls for 5 peppers which may be too hot for most. Read more . I recommend starting with 3, and modifying the recipe to your liking Ingredients:
5 fresh chile peppers (jalapenos, serranos, or habaneros work well), diced |
1/4 cup fresh cilantro, roughly chopped |
2 cloves garlic, minced |
1 medium sized onion, chopped |
2 medium sized tomatoes, chopped |
2 limes, halved |
1 tbsp vinegar (optional) |
salt to taste |
Directions:
1. In a metal mixing bowl combine the vinegar, peppers, garlic and cilantro 2. Add the juice of one lime, and stir with a fork 3. Add the onion and the tomato 4. Add 1/2 of the remaining lime, stir 5. If needed, add remaining lime 6. Add salt to taste 7. Stir, cover and put in the refrigerator for 1 hour to allow the flavors to blend. 8. Serve with chips, or as a garnish for any food that could use some spice |
