Simple Rich Vanilla Pastry Cream |

There is NO mistaking the vanilla flavour with this pastry cream! It's not sweet like a pudding would be, but it's rich and decadent, and the perfect filling for mini tarts or as a flan base. Ingredients:
1/3 cup sugar (stevia also works well here... about 1/4 tsp) |
3 tbsp cornstarch |
1/4 tsp salt |
2 1/2 cups whole milk |
1 1/2 tbsp vanilla extract |
Directions:
1. In a saucepan, combine the sugar, cornstarch and salt. 2. Add milk and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly with a wire whisk until mixture thickens (this can take 5 - 10 minutes). 3. Remove from heat and add vanilla, stirring in. 4. Pour onto a baking sheet, cover surface with plastic wrap and chill until firm before using. |
