This is a simple, homemade apple butter that is delicious; try it on toast, muffins, pancakes. Perfect for freezing and/or gift giving! Ingredients:
2 cups homemade unsweetened applesauce |
1 cup sugar |
2 teaspoons cinnamon |
1/2 teaspoon clove |
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg |
1/4 teaspoon ginger |
1 tablespoon lemon juice |
Directions:
1. Combine ingredients in a heavy skillet. Cook over medium-low heat, stirring constantly, until it will not run together when a spoon is drawn through. Please note, use a skillet, not a pot, you need the larger surface area to help with the evaporation and reduction process. Also be sure to stir constantly because it will scorch if you don't. 2. I spoon it into clean, dry freezer jam jars, leaving headspace and then freeze. 3. Thaw in fridge to use. 4. This can be easily doubled. |
