Despair no more! Instead of shelling out countless bucks for store bought nastiness, try this simple way to make your own raspberry (or any berry really) syrup.
Ingredients:
1 lb. berries of your choice (fresh or frozen are both perfectly acceptable)
3-4 cups water
1 cup sugar
mason jars
Directions:
1. Get out your favorite medium pot and pour in the water to boil.
2. While waiting for the water to boil, take your berries and divide them by half.
3. using a can or any other heavy blunt object, smash one half of the berries (just until they release their juices. I know it's fun, but don't overdo it.)
4. Once the pot hits boiling dump the berries (and all their delicious juices) into the pot.
5. Lower the heat to medium and let simmer until it has reduced by about half.
6. Once the first reduction is done, stir in the sugar.
7. let reduce by about 1/3 or until it has thickened pretty noticeably.
8. Pour syrup into any (clean) jar you have and let sit in the refrigerator for at least overnight before enjoying. :D
