My wife's recipes include page 120 torn from Woman's Day magazine, 2/5/85. It's the Silver Spoon Award recipe for crispy, crustless apple pie that Mrs. Fairy Hoellerich had been making since a disappointing crust in 1965. Read more . it's much easier than ordinary apple pie , said she. My wife added the final touch, the caramel drizzle. Ingredients:
1/2 cup butter (one quarter pound stick) |
1/2 cup brown sugar, packed |
1 teaspn ground cinnamon |
3 tablspns water |
1 cup all purpose flour |
1/2 cup pecans, chopped |
4 large cooking apples, about 6 cups when peeled and sliced |
1/2 cup granulated white sugar |
1 teaspn ground cinnamon |
2 oz. of caramel dip for apples, sold in produce dept, or any caramel ice cream topping |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. 2. In medium size mixing bowl, stir butter and brown sugar together. (I melt the butter in the microwave.) Then stir in 1 t cinnamon and water, then the flour. Stir in the pecans. 3. Mound apples in a 9 inch glass pie plate. Mix together the white sugar and 1 t cinnamon, sprinkle it over the apples. Spoon the pecan-flour mixture over apples in dollops. 4. Bake 45 to 50 minutes, until apples are tender to a poke with a knife. 5. Immediately out of the oven, drizzle on warmed caramel topping. 6. Serve warm, topped with whipped cream or ice cream. |
