Fig trees are an intrinsic part of the Greek landscape. Ripe figs are always plentiful in the summer. They're mostly eaten raw, sun-dried or made into sweets and jams. This is a very simple recipe from Modern Greek. Ingredients:
12 fresh figs, washed (ripe figs) |
2 teaspoons sugar |
3 tablespoons red wine |
yogurt or cream, for serving |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 400°F. 2. Score top of each fig with a sharp knife. 3. Place figs on baking sheet; sprinkle with sugar and drizzle with red wine. 4. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes or until softened. 5. Transfer to serving places and spoon the thickened red wine sauce over figs. 6. Serve with yogurt or cream. |
