Created at Harry's New York Bar in Paris, France, during WWI. The cocktail glass must be ice cold. A sugared rim is optional.

Ingredients:

1 ounce brandy

2/3 ounce cointreau liqueur

2/3 ounce fresh lemon juice

Directions:

1. Add all ingredients to an ice-filled shaker.
2. Cover and shake vigorously.
3. Strain into an ice-cold cocktail glass (martini).
4. Garnish with a maraschino cherry.
