There used to be a nursery rhyme: Mammy's little baby loves short'nin', short'nin', Mammy's little baby loves short'nin' bread. This recipe will make more of a shortbread cookie that requires very cold milk or a good cup of tea. From the Southern chapter of the United States Regional Cookbook, Culinary Arts Institute of Chicago, 1947. Ingredients:
4 cups flour, sifted |
1 cup light brown sugar |
2 cups butter |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350°F. 2. Mix flour and sugar; work in butter. 3. Place on a floured board and pat to 1/2 inch thickness. 4. Cut into desired shapes, place on baking pan and bake for approximately 20 minutes or until golden. |
