This recipe is for individual shortcake biscuits for strawberry shortcake or any other berries. They are light and luscious and a great change from angel cake (and much better than those little sponge cups in the supermarket! Read more !) I said it makes 8 but it depends on the size of the shortcakes you make. Ingredients:
2 cups flour |
1/2 tsp. salt |
4 tsp. baking powder |
4 tbsp. chilled shortening |
3/4 cup water or milk |
1 egg |
2 tbsp. sugar |
2 tbsp. oil |
Directions:
1. Cut dry ingredients into shortening. Add liquid and form in to ball. Refrigerate for 30 minutes. Turn onto floured board and knead 10 times. Cut into biscuits. Bake at 425 F for 10 to 12 minutes. |
