This recipe is a fond favorite from my chilhood. I don't think that my mother ever used a different frosting on our birthday cakes. The recipe is from my mother's personal hand-made recipe book. The prep and cook times here, I have estimated. Ingredients:
2 egg whites (unbeaten) |
1 1/2 cups sugar |
5 tablespoons cold water |
1 1/2 teaspoons cornstarch |
1 teaspoon vanilla |
Directions:
1. Combine all ingredients except vanilla in upper part of a double boiler, beating constantly with an egg beater until frosting stands in peaks. 2. Remove from heat. 3. Add vanilla. 4. Beat until frosting will spread easily on a 2 layer 8 inch cake. |
