These are wonderful to serve with wine as a snack or as appetizers. Keep very well and can be frozen and re-warmed at need. Ingredients:
pastry: 8 oz. cream cheese |
1/2 cup butter |
1 1/2 c flour |
filling: 8 oz. (2 c) shredded sharp cheddar |
2 beaten eggs |
1 tbs grated onion |
1 tsp. prepared mustard (try dijon) |
1/4 tsp. hot pepper sauce |
1/8 tsp. salt |
topping: 1 egg beaten with 1 tsp. water |
sesame seeds |
Directions:
1. Make dough: Blend all ingredients well until crumbly. 2. Form into a ball and wrap; chill at least 1 hour. 3. Make filling: Mix all ingredients well; chill while rolling dough. 4. Roll out chilled dough 1/8 thick. Cut out 3 circles or cut into squares, re-rolling scraps. 5. Place a spoonful of filling on the center of each circle or square, fold in half to make crescents or triangles, and seal the edges well with a fork. 6. Brush top with egg and sprinkle generously with sesame seeds. 7. Bake on ungreased sheets at 400° 15-20 minutes or until golden brown. 8. Can be served warm or at room temperature. 9. Can be frozen after cooling and reheated straight from the freezer at 325° for 10-15 minutes if desired. 10. Makes about 4 dozen. |
