A recipe for traditional shortbread that I got from my grandma who got it from my Aunt's grandmother in law from Scotland Ingredients:
1 lb (4 sticks) butter softened |
1 cup sugar |
1 cup cornstarch ( no this is not a typo) |
4 cups ap flour |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 325 2. Mix sugar and butter together. 3. Add cornstarch and mix until all is blended. 4. Slowly add the flour. 5. If not using a stand mixer you will probably need to use your hands to add in the last of the flour. 6. Mix until a ball forms. 7. With your hands spread out the dough on a cookie sheet (dough will spread, so if you need to divide the dough do so). 8. Pierce dough with a fork all over. 9. Sprinkle with colored sugar or jimmies or sprinkles 10. Bake 10-20 minutes or until the edges are slighlty browned. 11. ****Let the cookies sit on the cookie tray for 2 mins then cut with a sharp knife. 12. You can also roll out the dough and use with cut outs. Remember to pierce the cutouts with a fork. |
