This is a plain and simple scone recipe of Scotland. Ingredients:
2 cups flour |
2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder |
1/4 teaspoon baking soda |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
2 tablespoons sugar |
1/4 cup butter |
1 egg, slightly beaten |
3/4 cup buttermilk |
milk and sugar |
Directions:
1. Stir dry ingredients together. 2. Cut in butter until mixture is crumbly. 3. Combine egg with buttermilk; stir into dry ingredients. 4. Turn dough out onto board, knead lightly. 5. Divide in half'; roll each into a round, 1/2 inch thick. 6. Cut each round into 6 to 8 wedges. 7. Brush with milk, sprinkle with sugar. 8. Bake on greased baking sheet in preheated 425 degree oven 9. for about 10 minutes. 10. Serve hot with butter and jam. |
