Ingredients:
1 cup butter or margarine, softened |
2 cups sugar |
3 eggs |
1 teaspoon baking soda |
3 tablespoons milk |
3 cups all-purpose flour |
1 teaspoon cream of tartar |
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon |
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg |
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves |
1 cup chopped raisins |
Directions:
1. Cream butter; gradually add sugar, beating well. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Dissolve soda in milk; set aside. 2. Combine next 5 ingredients; add to creamed mixture alternately with milk mixture, beginning and ending with flour mixture. Stir in raisins. 3. Spread batter in a greased and waxed-paper lined 15- x 10- x 1-inch jellyroll pan. Bake at 350° for 35 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool and cut into 2 1/2- x 1-inch bars. 4. Note: Leftover Scotch Hermits may be frozen for later use. |
