This recipe was given to me years ago. My family loves this, especially my Mother. Ingredients:
2 tablespoons butter |
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour |
3/4 teaspoon salt |
1/4 teaspoon pepper |
2 cups milk |
4 cups sliced peeled potatoes |
1 cup sliced carrot |
1/4 cup chopped onion |
1/4 cup chopped green pepper |
1 cup chopped cooked ham |
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. 2. For sauce, melt butter in a small saucepan, stir in flour, salt and pepper. Cook, stirring constantly for 1 minute. 3. Gradually whisk in milk, cook until thickened. Set aside. 4. For casserole, layer half of all vegetables and ham in a greased 2 quart casserole dish, cover with half of white sauce. Repeat layers. 5. Sprinkle cheese over all. 6. Bake , covered, for 1 hour. 7. Remove cover and bake 10 minutes longer. |
