The old classic recipe from Appalachia for Sawmill Gravy Ingredients:
1-1/2 tablespoons fried meat grease; ham, sausage, or bacon |
3 tablespoons flour |
2 tablespoons hot water |
1 cup heated milk |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
1/2 teaspoon fine ground black pepper |
Directions:
1. Add flour to the melted fat in hot pan and stir to make a brown roux. 2. Thin the mixture with a little hot water and add heated milk, salt and pepper. 3. Stir until thick. Add crumbled fried sausage for a real treat. 4. Serve over hot home made biscuits. |
