This recipe is from Good Housekeeping. It is one of the quick recipes and sounds delicious. I am putting it on for safekeeping and I'll be trying it soon. Ingredients:
2 teaspoons oil |
1 1/2 lbs flank steaks, thinly sliced (or use pork tenderloin) |
1/8 teaspoon five-spice powder |
1 medium red pepper, thinly sliced |
1 medium green pepper, thinly sliced |
1 small onion, thinly sliced |
2 tablespoons brown sugar |
1 tablespoon soy sauce, or |
1 tablespoon teriyaki sauce (for sweeter flavor) |
1 tablespoon cornstarch |
cooked rice, for serving |
Directions:
1. In a skillet, heat oil on medium-high until hot. Sprinkle steak with five-spice powder and 1/4 tsp salt; add to skillet. Cook 3 minutes or until just browned, stirring occasionally. With a slotted spoon, transfer to a bowl. 2. If you're not fond of peppers, you can substitute a bag of frozen broccoli florets. To skillet, add peppers (florets), onion, 2 tbsp water, and a pinch of salt. Cover; cook 5 minutes, or until slightly softened, stirring occasionally. 3. In a small bowl, whisk together sugar, soy sauce, cornstarch, 3 tbsp water and 1/4 tsp pepper until smooth. Add to skillet; heat to simmering. Simmer 1 minute or until thickened. Add beef and any accumulated juices to skillet. Cook 1 minute or until beef is heated through. Serve over rice. |
