Savory Southern Green Beans |

This is the best green bean recipe that is still very healthy and low fat. Ingredients:
2 pounds of green beans (fresh or frozen) |
4 ounces lean turkey ham, finely chopped |
1/2 teaspoon salt (optional) |
1/4 teaspoon pepper |
1 tablespoon sugar |
Directions:
1. String and snap the beans if they are fresh. Just open up the bag(s) if they are frozen. Put the beans, ham, salt, pepper and sugar into a large 4 quart pot. Add enough water to just barely cover the beans. Put the pot on the stove and bring it to a boil. Reduce the heat so they just barely simmer. Cover the pot with a lid or a pizza pan and let it simmer on the back of the stove for at least half an hour. You can cook them longer if you like. |
