2 lb granny smith apples (4), peeled, cored, and chopped |
1/2 cup water |
2 tablespoons unsalted butter |
2 tablespoons sugar |
1 tablespoon cider vinegar |
4 garlic cloves, quartered |
1/2 teaspoon chopped fresh marjoram or thyme |
Directions:
1. Simmer all ingredients in a 3-quart heavy saucepan, covered, stirring occasionally, until apples fall apart and garlic is tender, about 15 minutes. Mash garlic into applesauce. Season with salt and pepper. |
