My wifes take on a traditional Italian bread served at the holidays. Considering she's an English/Scottish mix, its really good. Better than my familys. Ingredients:
1 package frozen bread dough(3 loaves)-thawed |
3-4 lbs. ground sausage |
16-20 oz. package fresh spinach |
1 large can crushed tomatoes |
1 large chopped onion |
grated cheese |
olive oil |
Directions:
1. Saute onion & sausage until browned & crumbly 2. Drain excess fat and sprinkle lightly on rolled dough 3. Break up spinach & sprinkle over sausage 4. Add a few spoonfuls of smashed tomatoes then top with a little grated cheese 5. Sprinkle lightly with olive oil 6. Roll into long loaf, pinch in ends 7. Let rise on a cookie sheet for an hour or two 8. Bake 375 1/2 hour or until golden brown 9. Before baking, wipe top with oil. |
