Ohio is well known for their Sauerkraut Balls. As a Northeast Ohio resident, I feel obligated to post this recipe. I tried this recipe for last year's Christmast party. It was a bit hit. If you love sauerkraut, you'll love these. Read more . If you don't, you can still give it a try. Ingredients:
1 pound hot ground pork sausage |
1 onion, diced |
1 (16 ounce) can sauerkraut, well drained and finely chopped |
1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened |
2 cups seasoned bread crumbs |
1 egg, lightly beaten |
Directions:
1. Cook hot ground pork sausage and onion in a large, deep skillet. 2. Cook over medium high heat until sausage is evenly brown and onions are soft, about 10 minutes. 3. Drain and transfer to a large bowl. 4. Mix sauerkraut and cream cheese in the sausage mixture. 5. Cover and chill in the refrigerator approximately 2 hours. 6. Mix egg in another small bowl. 7. Place seasoned bread crumbs in a medium bowl. 8. Roll the chilled sausage mixture into 1 inch balls. 9. Dredge sausage balls one at a time in the egg mixture and the bread crumbs. 10. Bake sausage balls in a preheated 350F oven until golden brown (approximately 15 minutes) |
