These are excellent - I can't remember how many this makes but I know it does make alot. Ingredients:
1/2 cup shortening |
1/2 cup sugar |
3 eggs |
1 1/2 cups milk |
6 -7 cups flour |
1/4 ounce yeast |
1/2 cup warm water |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
1 1/2 cups instant mashed potatoes (made) |
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg |
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon |
1/2 cup boiling water |
1 tablespoon margarine |
1 teaspoon vanilla |
1 lb powdered sugar |
Directions:
1. Dissolve yeast in warm water. Beat shortening, sugar and eggs. Add the dissolved yeast to this mixture. Add milk, spices and salt to this mixture and enough flour (between 6-7 cups) to make a soft dough. Place in a greased bowl and covered and let rise until double in size. 2. Roll out on a lightly floured surface to 1/2 inch thick and cut into doughnut shapes. Place on a greased sheet and cover - letting rise again until double. 3. In the meantime mix up the glaze ingredients together. 4. Fry in hot oil until brown. 5. Place on a wire rack with a piece of parchment underneath and glaze. |
