As, I was making these, my nephew's were running around chasing each other and driving my sister and I bonkers, when Michael, my oldest, said to the other two, Hey if you don't behave, Santa's gonna give u this 'Bag of Coals, (holding the sheet pan of cookies) and that is how the recipe was 'Born':) Ingredients:
one box fudge brownie mix |
1 tsp. vanilla extract |
1 tsp. almond extract |
1/2 c. walnuts (crushed) |
4 bars of dark chocolate |
1tbsp. butter |
1/2 c. powdered sugar (to resemble snow) |
Directions:
1. Make brownie batter according to pkg. directions 2. Add the extracts and walnuts 3. stir, until chunky 4. In a double boiler add butter and chopped pieces of the chocolate bars 5. stir until smooth 6. taking a tablespoon, drop batter onto a lightly greased ( I use baker's joy) 7. 9x13 sheetpan 8. bake in oven at 350 degrees until inserted toothpick comes clean 9. Let cookies cool on wire rack (about an hour) 10. When cooled, gently dip each cookie in candy 11. place each cookie on plate lined with waxed paper put in frig until candy is hardened. 12. I serve these on a 'turkey platter dusted with the powdered sugar to look like fallen snow and place cookies loosely around each other 13. Also, makes a great gift! 14. For Gift-giving: 15. place colored plastic wrap in a cookie tin 16. lightly dust the cookies with the powdered sugar 17. wrap a pretty ribbon onto cookie tin 18. SPECIAL NOTES: 19. I did forget how much this made, I think three dozen? 20. but it is at the baker's discretion how much he/she uses 21. If you don'have a double-boiler , any small saucepan will do I will add photo when I make these!in time for Christmas |
