This is my version of Salisbury Steak. I looked at quite a few of the recipes here for Salisbury Steak and I've taken bits and pieces of some and my own additions and subtractions and came up with this. Ingredients:
1 lb ground beef |
1 (8 ounce) can v8 vegetable juice |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
1/2 teaspoon pepper |
1 tablespoon italian seasoning |
1/3 cup dried onion |
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder |
1 egg |
1 cup dried breadcrumbs |
3 dashes worcestershire sauce |
1 yellow sweet onion |
1 (4 ounce) can mixed mushrooms |
4 tablespoons olive oil |
4 tablespoons all-purpose flour |
2 1/2 cups beef broth |
Directions:
1. STEAKS. 2. mix the ground beef, v8, salt, pepper, italian seasoning, dried onions, garlic powder, egg bread crumbs and Worcestershire sauce together in a medium bowl. 3. form into 6 oval patties about 1/2 inch thick. 4. cover and let sit in refrigerator for 3-4 hours. 5. after refrigeration heat 2 tbs oil in a saute pan. 6. add 3 steaks at a time and brown on both sides until just cooked through. 7. remove steaks and add to gravy pan. 8. repeate the previous 2 steps with the remaning steaks. 9. let steaks simmer in gravy for 20 minutes. 10. GRAVY. 11. in the mean time slice yellow onion into thin rings. 12. saute onion rings in 2 tbsp olive oil on low heat until very soft. 13. add mushrooms 14. melt butter in the pan and add flour creating a roux. 15. turn heat up to high. 16. whisk in beef broth until lump free. 17. turn heat down to low and simmer. |
