This is a traditional Russian dish, however I have altered it by adding strawberries. It is alot like a Russian version of cheesecake, but Farmers cheese is used. I made mine with home made tvorog (Farmers cheese), and i will be putting up a recipe for that soon. Ingredients:
2 1/2 c farmers cheese |
2 eggs separated |
5 tbs cream of wheat (not instant) |
about 1/2 c sugar |
1 tsp baking soda, neutralized with a dash vinegar |
pinch salt |
1 tsp vanilla extract |
1 tbs melted butter (optional) |
a couple handfuls of raisins and toasted walnuts |
about 1 cup strawberries (this is optional) |
sour cream (optional) |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven 350˚. Butter a baking dish. 2. Combine cheese and egg yolks. 3. Mix in cream of wheat. 4. Mix in sugar. 5. Mix in the neutralized baking soda, salt, vanilla extract and melted butter. 6. Beat whites and fold in. 7. Fold in raisins and walnuts. 8. Chop up most of the strawberries and mix in. 9. Pour into the baking dish. 10. Spread a layer of sour cream on top, and decorate with sliced strawberries. 11. Bake until nice and golden, 40-60 min. |
