My brother-inlaw from Germany taught me how to make this recipe,it is a dish they have often with a pork roast with gravy and dumplings the size of tennis balls. He cooked us the whole meal. The cabbage dish was the perfect offset to the meal. Ingredients:

1 medium onion (diced) |
2 tart apples (diced) |
1 cup water |
1 teaspoon salt |
1 1/2 teaspoons sugar |
1 1/2 teaspoons caraway seeds |
1/2 cup red wine vinegar |
pepper |
Directions:
1. In a large kettle fry bacon until crisp, 2. Add onion and saute until golden. 3. Stir in sugar and cook until lightly brown. 4. Add cabbage and apples. 1/2 cup water. 5. Mix well, cover and cook approximately 30 minutes. On medium heat. 6. Add caraway seeds, 1/2 cup water, and vinegar. 7. Cover and cook another 20 minutes. 8. pepper to taste |
