This is my mom's recipe she always made them at Christmas. As kids these were usually the last ones we ate. Ingredients:
1/2 cup butter |
1/2 cup shortening |
1 large egg |
1 cup molasses |
2 tablespoons vinegar |
5 cups sifted flour |
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
2 teaspoons ginger |
1 teaspoon cinnamon |
1 teaspoon clove |
Directions:
1. Cream butter, shortening and sugar. Add egg, molasses and vinegar (mixture with curdle). Sift dry ingredients together and then gradually add to butter mixture. Chill 3 hours. Roll thin, use cookie cutters to make shapes. Place on cookie sheet and bake at 375 5-6 minutes. Makes 8-10 dozen. |
