Oatmeal is a great way for both parents and baby to start the day. This whole grain has complex carbs, protein, and fiber, which help supply a steady stream of energy to the body. Using milk in place of water to make the oatmeal gives the hot cereal an extra boost of calcium. For additional flavor, sprinkle it with chopped walnuts and brown sugar. Ingredients:
2 cups 1% low-fat milk |
2 cups old-fashioned oats |
1/2 cup golden raisins |
2 tablespoons honey |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract |
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon |
Directions:
1. Bring milk to a boil over medium heat. Stir in oats; cook 5 minutes. Remove from heat; stir in raisins and remaining ingredients. 2. For baby: Serve cooled spoonfuls in a small bowl. |
