My husband makes this every Christmas for family & friends. It's an Italian sweetbread with rum soaked raisins, dried fruit and orange zest. makes the best french toast ever or toast with some butter is delicious as well. Read more . hope you get a chance to try it. Ingredients:
3/4 cup warm water |
1/4 cup butter, softened at room temp |
2 large eggs |
1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract |
1/2 vanilla bean, scraped |
3 1/4 cups flour |
2 tbsp sugar |
2 tbsp dry powdered milk |
1 1/2 tsp salt |
2 tsp active dry yeast |
1/4 cup mixed dried fruit (cranberries, dates or your favorite) |
1/4 cup dark rum soaked raisins, drained |
2 tbsp slivered almonds |
1 tbsp orange zest |
Directions:
1. Place first 10 ingredients in order into bread machine loaf pan. 2. Select sweet or basic white bread cycle and use medium or light crust color setting. 3. Add chopped fruit, drained rum soaked raisins, almonds & orange zest when the raisin or nut signal starts OR 5-10 minutes minutes before the last kneading cycle ends. 4. Serve warm, toasted with butter, or makes the best french toast:) |
