This old-time recipe is made even better by adding cinnamon or nutmeg. Your family will love this dish, it tastes just like mom made it! Ingredients:
3/4 cup white rice, uncooked |
2 cups milk, divided |
1 egg, beaten |
1/3 cup sugar (white) |
2/3 cup raisins (golden recommended) |
1 tbsp of butter |
1/2 tsp vanilla extract |
1/4 tsp of salt |
Directions:
1. Boil 1 1/2 cups of water in a medium sized saucepan. Then, add the rice, and stir. Now, reduce heat, cover and simmer for 20 minutes. Combine 1 1/2 cups cooked rice, 1 1/2 cups of milk, salt and sugar in another saucepan. Cook this over medium heat, until its thick and creamy (about 15-20 minutes). Add in the left over 1/2 cup milk, raisins and beaten egg. Cook for an additional 2 minutes, stirring constantly. Finally, remove from the heat, and stir in the vanilla and butter. Serve warm, and enjoy! |
